  2. Business studies: includes economics
  3. Design & Technology: includes food technology and engineering.
  4. EEA National: here relates to individuals with a European Union, European Economic Area or included in the single market- this includes Swiss nationality. The UK is not included in these figures.
  5. The Teacher Workforce Model (TWM) is used by DfE to set postgraduate ITT targets https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/postgraduate-initial-teacher-training-targets/2023-24.
  6. Other: includes media and communication studies, social studies, and psychology.
  7. Physical Education: includes dance.
  8. Subject: The subject given here is ITT subject and may not be the same as the subject of the undergraduate degree held.
  9. Data was extracted on 21 November 2023.
  10. Figures for 2023/24 are provisional and are subject to change. Figures for 2022/23 and all previous years have been revised.
  11. Troops to Teachers are excluded from all figures prior to 2021/22.
  12. Total Ebacc: EBacc here includes English, mathematics, modern foreign languages, physics, biology, chemistry, history, geography, computing and classics. Trainees on the 'PE with Ebacc' programme are not included.
  13. Sex other: Sex was previously reported as gender. This has been updated as it was previously mislabelled. From 2021/22, trainees who chose not to provide data on sex have been included in an 'unknown' category. Prior to this they were included in 'other'.
  14. Data from 2021/22 does not contain forecast trainees, this is due to a change in data collection methodology.
  15. Warning: percentages have been rounded and therefore may not sum to 100%.
  16. Undergraduate: The majority of undergraduate provision is offered by higher education institutions.
  17. Proportions exclude trainees where information was not supplied, or where characteristics/information were reported as ‘unknown’.
  18. For 2023/24 only, three providers submitted data with very high numbers of trainees with other sex. These have been recoded as unknown sex while we investigate this with providers.
  19. Other contains Citizenship trainees. There were 40 Citizenship trainees in 2022/23 and 23 in 2023/24.
